Educational Assistant Qualifications
Certified Teachers
Educational Assistant Diploma or Educational Support Diploma from an accredited post‑secondary institution
Developmental Service Worker (DSW) from an accredited post‑secondary institution
Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from an accredited post‑secondary institution
Social Services Diploma (SSW) from an accredited post‑secondary institution
Alternative EA Qualifications with Experience
Post‑secondary degree in Sociology from an accredited post‑secondary institution AND a MINIMUM of one (1) year (1,224) hours of related work experience preferably directly supporting special‑needs children. In lieu of relevant related work experience, the Board may consider significant relevant volunteer experience.
Minimum six (6) month diploma from an accredited post‑secondary institution in a child‑related discipline AND a MINIMUM of one (1) year (1,224) hours of related work experience preferably directly supporting special‑needs children. In lieu of relevant related work experience, the Board may consider significant relevant volunteer experience.
Minimum six (6) month certificate from an accredited educational institution in a child‑related discipline AND a MINIMUM of one (1) year (1,224) hours of related work experience preferably directly supporting special‑needs children. This could include but is not limited to programs such as the St. Louis Adult Learning certificate program. In lieu of relevant related work experience, the Board may consider significant relevant volunteer experience.
Post‑secondary degree/diploma from an accredited post‑secondary institution that is complementary to supporting special‑needs children as solely determined by the Board AND a MINIMUM of one (1) year (1,224) hours of related work experience preferably directly supporting special‑needs children. In lieu of relevant related work experience, the Board may consider significant relevant volunteer experience.
Assets
A valid Behaviour Management Systems certification
Proven ability and recent experience in working with students with special needs and behavioural disabilities is strongly preferred and school‑based experience

Lifting/Positioning Training
