Position:
Purchasing Agent
Location:
Cambridge, Ontario (covering Cambridge and Brantford Fabrication Facilities)
Reporting To:
Procurement Manager
The role involves negotiation and procurement of commodities, equipment, and services for the facilities.
Responsibilities
Negotiate and procure equipment, materials, and components, including nuclear safety related materials for use in Nuclear Power Plants in Canada.
Review purchase requisitions and related documentation for clarity, completeness, and adherence to quality assurance requirements.
Prepare and issue Request for Quotation (RFQ) to qualified vendors based on Aecon’s Approved Suppliers List (ASL).
Negotiate best price, delivery terms, payment conditions, tax exemptions, price escalation, and other factors impacting supply.
Collaborate with Aecon Operations personnel and regional offices to acquire necessary materials.
Support the estimating team with pricing at the client proposal stage.
Ensure quality, reliability, and responsiveness to operational needs that meet or exceed organizational expectations.
Manage logistics, including expediting critical site deliveries.
Conduct market-based research to develop new suppliers that add value to Aecon projects.
Assist the Procurement Manager in developing and implementing detailed procurement strategies, including cost reduction strategies.
Provide service to internal clients outside normal business hours.
Conduct supplier and job site visits to assist the Quality Department.
Stay informed about new products and consumer trends.
Qualifications
2‑5 years of experience in the construction industry in a procurement or project coordinator role.
Completion of a Materials and Operations Management Program at the college or university level is an asset.
Enrollment in or completion of the National Institute of Supply Chain Leadership’s (NISCL) Accreditation Program is preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products.
Basic knowledge of commodity procurement, including civil, electrical, mechanical, consumables, tooling, and personal protective equipment.
Strong ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities.
Excellent interpersonal, customer service, planning, decision‑making, negotiation, and time‑management skills.
Knowledge of the SAP planning system is an asset.
Must meet mandated nuclear export controls requirements for employment.
Background check includes a full security check and clearance process. A valid Bruce Power security clearance is strongly preferred.
Physical Demands
Extended periods sitting at a computer.
Occasional travel to supplier facilities for source inspections and operations discussions.
Travel to project sites for required meetings.
Ability to provide procurement support during non‑standard working hours.
Pay Range
Expected pay range: $72,000 – $80,000 per year, with adjustments based on location, education, experience, and job conditions.
