  • Works with the customer and ATS Industrial Automation Inc. Nuclear Engineering team to develop, test, and implement system solutions that meet the customer's process requirements including prototype machines or systems. Direct responsibility for controls software systems, with input and support for controls hardware and mechanical design.
  • Due to the duration of the Bruce MCR and BP Training Facility projects, the position requires prolonged assignments at site facilities (potentially for 18 months at a time). The expectation is to perform up to 12.5-hour shifts (including shift overlap) on a 4 on, 4 off basis for MCR; and 5x10 hours per week at the training facility. The position may also require time at ATS in Cambridge between site deployments, to progress design and build project work.
  • Specific Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the system or tooling testing through execution of testing and preparation of test reports.
  • Responsible for learning a customer process and becoming the local expert in it to support the execution of the MCR project.
  • Provide input and technical support to the Fuel Channel and Feeder Replacement construction team.
  • Assist the maintenance crews with resolving issues associated with maintenance and testing of nuclear service tools.
  • Assist with training of personnel with the operation of specialized nuclear service tools.
  • Setup of controls, computer systems and cabling for tool testing and troubleshooting operations.
  • Assist in the preparation of a recovery plan or the implementation of a troubleshooting plan when work begins to deviate from the plan.
  • Identify risks and contribute to technical decision making. Interacts with the customer on technical and logistical issues while representing ATS in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Develop expert level understanding of nuclear execution project processes and advises on interfacing between digital and physical equipment.
  • Generate effective shift communications including shift logs, event reports, data analysis, and turnovers with high quality technical writing and sufficient levels of detail.
  • Take ownership over project success and contribute to driving production efficiency. Identify areas for improvement or cost reduction.
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
  • Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures.
  • Other duties may be assigned or subject to change in alignment with customer requirements.
  • Coordinate and execute project deliverables on schedule and budget.
  • Responsible for communicating schedule update and progress on tasks to the Manager, Nuclear Service and the Project Manager.
  • Assists with continuous systems design improvements on all nuclear tooling and processes.
  • Qualifications

    Education

  • A post-secondary engineering degree, diploma or equivalent, specializing in mechanical, electrical, systems or computer engineering.
  • Additional Information

    Experience

  • Strong programming, mechanical and electrical problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of SCADA, Siemens S7 PLC control systems and machine operation with hands-on experience is desirable.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Some experience in maintenance of CANDU reactors and a practical working knowledge of nuclear service tooling.
  • Specific experience with assembly and testing of nuclear service tooling.
  • A practical working knowledge of the Quality Systems, codes and standards associated with nuclear maintenance (CSA N285, CSA Z299, CSA N299) is required.
  • Working knowledge and experience using computer software applications, including Microsoft Office software.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work in a team environment
