FPGA Design Engineer
On-Site: 5x on-site Cambridge, ON
Contract : 6 months + ext
Rate : $52-67/hr
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering (or related field)
- 8+ years of experience in hardware design and electronic product development
- 3+ years of experience in FPGA design, architecture, coding, and simulation with FPGA tool flows (Place & Route, timing analysis, bitstream generation, programming, debugging)
- 3+ years using Mentor Graphics tools for schematic capture and PCB layout
- Candidates must be eligible for CGP clearance.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Experience with microcontrollers/microprocessors and digital interfacing
- Embedded software development (C/C++, Python, Linux/UNIX)
- Knowledge of communication protocols (Ethernet, TCP/UDP, REST, etc.)
- Aerospace/space or safety-critical system experience
- Familiarity with system modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB) and test equipment

Insight Global is seeking a FPGA Hardware Engineer to join a leading global aerospace technology organization. In this role, you will work as part of a cross-functional engineering team developing advanced optical and scientific instruments for space applications across military, government, and commercial sectors. You will help define requirements, design system architectures, and deliver high-performance FPGA-based solutions that support applications such as Earth observation, atmospheric monitoring, and optical communications.
This position requires strong expertise in FPGA and hardware development, along with hands-on experience in integration, testing, and validation to ensure reliable, mission-critical performance. You will play a key role in driving innovation and contributing to next-generation aerospace and space technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop FPGA/logic solutions for space-based products within a collaborative engineering team
- Define and support requirements, architecture, design, and test plans
- Participate in analysis, verification, and validation activities
- Test, debug, and troubleshoot systems, software, and electronics
- Perform simulations and system-level modeling to ensure performance targets
- Provide technical support to customers and contribute to process improvements
- Produce documentation aligned with space agency standards (CSA, NASA, ESA)
