Our client within the construction industry is seeking an ambitious and technically proficient Assistant Controller to join their team near the Kitchener area.

This role offers a significant opportunity for professional advancement, with the expectation that the successful candidate will transition into a Controller position. The company is expanding into larger, more complex projects, providing a dynamic environment for an individual ready to take on increased responsibility and contribute to strategic financial decision-making.

This is an opportunity to manage critical financial functions and ultimately handle the current day-to-day financial duties. The ideal candidate will possess strong fundamental accounting skills and if you bring construction experience, that's a bonus!

Responsibilities:
  • Handle full financials and learn the intricacies of the business.
  • Manage the accounting team, ensuring efficient operations.
  • Ensure job reports are flowing accurately and on a percent complete basis.
  • Maintain cash flow and profitability, providing accurate reporting.
  • Provide financial information to support informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate with HR and other accounting team members on payroll, AR, AP, and materials payable.
  • Oversee job performance and budgets for various construction projects.
Qualifications:
  • Strong fundamental accounting skills are essential
  • Understanding of construction costs and job reporting, including tracking on a percent complete basis and accurate profitability reporting
  • Experience in the construction industry (sub-trade, general contractor, or development side) is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Procore, Sage 300 CRE, and ADP is an asset.
  • Must be able to work 100% in-office
