Job Summary

The purpose of this role is to maintain the safety, security, and efficiency of the DDC visitation process. This position is responsible for registering visitors, verifying identification, enforcing facility rules, monitoring visitation areas, and providing excellent customer service to visitors, staff, and external agencies. The Visitation Specialist shall have interaction with and complete documentation of attorneys and OPD for legal visits.

Responsibilities
  • Register visitors on a DDC log sheet and utilize a computer system to record and log regular detainee visitations and legal visits.
  • Verify and check valid identification for all visitors before granting access.
  • Maintain accurate records of professional and personal visitations.
  • Inform visitors of facility rules, regulations and policies.
  • Prohibited items – no cell phones, food or beverages.
  • Dress code requirements.
  • Behavioral expectations.
  • Enforce visitation policies and refuse or interrupt visitation when rules are violated.
  • Monitor visitors and detainees in the visitation area to ensure compliance with facility protocols.
  • Answer phone inquiries regarding visitation requests, hours and time frames.
  • Assist visitors with the use of the facility kiosks for detainee funds.
  • Utilize the DDC radio communication system to interact with the control room, Correctional Officers and other staff members.
  • Assist external agencies such as OPD (Office of the Public Defender), CPS (Child Protective Services) and DJS (Department of Juvenile Services) in accessing and returning from client visits.
  • Assist the front desk by answering and directing phone calls, taking messages and providing general visitor support.
  • Maintain the professional visitors log using the DDC computer system.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience & Qualifications

High school diploma or GED (vocational or technical training preferred) with two years of administrative experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job. Microsoft experience (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint). Excellent communication and people skills. Ability to communicate and work with outside agencies. Familiarity with organizational software, technology, and trends.

Valid driver's license is preferred.

Physical Requirements

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including a computer, copier, telephone, and communications equipment. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting 20 pounds, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to exert up to fifty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to twenty pounds of force frequently.

Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for light work. Clear vision and hearing, including the ability to communicate effectively in various environments. Other may be required to work on religious holidays. Regular and predictable attendance is required. May require standing for long periods and monitoring visitor interactions. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and maintain attention to detail.
