Job Summary
Perform real‑time transcriptions of sensitive Spanish material to English, analyze and decode colloquialisms and slang, extract pertinent information, and convey findings to law enforcement agents. Transcribe source documents and recordings from various media.
- Listen to oral and written intercepts or pre‑recorded communications in Spanish (Puerto Rican and Dominican dialects) and provide verbal and written synopsis and transcriptions.
- Relate all pertinent information to the client during live projects.
- Contribute to a master list of slang words and codes used by specific groups or organizations.
- Maintain a voice library throughout the project.
- Transcribe and translate calls and documents as assigned.
- Produce court‑ready transcriptions of calls, chats, and documents in the required format.
- Use reference tools created during the project.
- Transcribe a minimum of 16 minutes of recorded conversation in an 8‑hour day.
- Operate specialized software equipment, including JSI voice box, Pen‑link, Comverse, and other communication collection equipment.
- Maintain a daily log of productivity.
- Perform related duties as assigned within scope of practice.
- Bachelor’s degree with 3 years’ professional experience OR Associate degree with 5 years’ professional experience OR High School diploma with 7 years’ experience.
- Minimum 1 year of transcription experience in Spanish.
- Subject to government background investigation; must meet eligibility for classified information access.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
- Knowledge of source‑language colloquialisms and expressions.
- Knowledgeable in SMS language, social media, and Webchat.
- Excellent verbal and written Spanish skills with correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Score of 3 or better on a third‑party language assessment (Listening/Speaking/Reading/Writing) in English.
- Strong computer skills in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment and communicate effectively with management and law enforcement personnel.
- Strong time‑management and prioritization skills; able to meet stringent deadlines and work in a team environment.
- Will type at least 45 words per minute.
- Obtain and maintain a Security Clearance.
- Favorable credit check for all cleared positions.
- Successfully pass a background investigation, medical, and drug screen.
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident living in the U.S. for the past 3 of 5 years.
- Mobility to attend meetings; may require standing, walking, or mobility support.
- Occasional climbing, stooping, or kneeling (0%‑10% of time).
- Little lifting/pulling/pushing (0%‑10% of time).
- Be able to write, type, and use a telephone system 100% of the time.
- May need to sit for extended periods while monitoring live or taped calls; desk time may be restricted during live monitoring.
