Chef Instructor - Professional Pastry Programs - Per Diem

CSCA is an iconic New England culinary school with over 40 years of excellence. We are seeking a passionate part-time Pastry Chef Instructor to teach our Professional Pastry Programs. The ideal candidate will have exceptional baking, teaching, and customer service skills, and will be responsible for guiding students through fundamental and advanced pastry techniques, as well as integrating pastry skills into savory dishes.

Topics of study include:

  • Fundamentals of Pastry Arts:
    French techniques, ingredient functions, classic European desserts, and more.
  • Combined Savory Component:
    Incorporating pastry skills into savory dishes, international cuisines.
  • Advanced Techniques & Presentations:
    Chocolate tempering, sugar work, wedding cakes, confections, French sweets.

Essential Duties:

  • Manage classes of up to 15 students, deliver lectures, assign recipes, and evaluate student work.
  • Administer quizzes, grades, and provide verbal assessments.
  • Maintain attendance records, participate in faculty meetings, and supervise practical exams.
  • Supervise kitchen activities, ensure safety and cleanliness, and organize class setup.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform other duties as assigned, wear CSCA uniform during instructing.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of pastry arts/baking experience and 2 years of teaching experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, strong communication skills, and ability to pass a background check.

Work Hours: Part-time, per diem, variable schedule based on class demand.

Physical Demands: Ability to lift 25 pounds, stand for long periods, handle heavy equipment.

Work Environment: Primarily in commercial kitchens with variable temperature and humidity.
