- Must have or be pursuing EEC certification

- Develop and implement daily curriculum
- Foster a nurturing atmosphere and ensure a method of positive discipline is used at all times
- Collaborate with co‑teachers and other teachers as a team
- Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings
- Write a developmental evaluation for each child every three months; meet with parents to discuss progress
- Ensure all classroom aspects run smoothly (transitions, routines, nap time, health and safety procedures)
- Pursue activities to further your own professional development
- Communicate with the Director daily, including parent information and use of chain of command for issues
- Communicate with each parent daily
- Write anecdotal records concerning each child on a daily basis
- Maintain a safe, stable, and secure environment; keep classroom clean, materials stocked, door locked at day’s end
- Supervise volunteers; never leave them alone with children
- Become familiar with EEC regulations and center policy
- Observe children for developmental delays or emotional needs that might require special services; inform parents and Director; confer on referrals
- Perform all duties in compliance with The Salvation Army’s policy and regulations
- Represent The Salvation Army’s social mission in the Cambridge Somerville Day Care program
- Refer persons with spiritual needs to The Salvation Army officer
- Perform other duties within the scope of the position
