Quiver Bioscience is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Engineer to join our Engineering Department. Under the supervision of an Engineering Director, this key role involves designing, building, and maintaining custom microscopy instrumentation to support our cutting‑edge optical electrophysiology/fluorescence microscopy methods. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with our research associates, engineers, scientists, and consultants, driving platform technology advancements, facilitating drug development data production, and leading grant research projects.
Ideal applicants will have a robust background in electrical, mechanical, and optical systems, alongside a foundational understanding of neuroscience.
- Serve as the technical lead for the development and continuous improvement of Quiver’s custom microscopy systems.
- Conduct neuronal imaging/screening assays; develop, troubleshoot, and optimize new assays of neuronal function, including work with acute brain slices.
- Support the following functional imaging activities:
- Review experimental design forms and communicate changes when necessary
- Preparation of metadata excel file and plate map files
- Perform all‑optical electrophysiology recordings of neuronal cultures
- Generation of preliminary results with MATLAB
- Collaborate with the imaging team to improve microscope performance and operational workflows.
- Apply expertise in electrical and mechanical systems; optical system troubleshooting is essential.
- Ensure regular maintenance, calibration of microscopes, and upkeep of accurate instrument logs.
- Manage large datasets through our data analysis pipeline and perform analyses of neuronal electrophysiology data.
- Maintain detailed technical documentation for hardware, software, optical, mechanical, and electrical designs.
- Execute additional responsibilities as needed to support team objectives.
- Master’s degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- 2+yrs proven experience in the design and construction of optical instruments.
- Demonstrated involvement in research projects funded by grants.
- Hands‑on experience with scientific, medical, or engineering instrumentation.
- Proficiency in Matlab and/or other programming languages.
- Strong ability to work both independently and as part of cross‑functional teams.
- Adaptability to the dynamic environment of a startup, with a proactive and solution‑oriented approach.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Familiarity with Solid Works or other CAD software.
- Experience with Zemax or other optical simulation tools.
- Background in high‑throughput screening techniques.
- Knowledge of electrophysiology and neuroscience.
- Proficiency in Github or similar version control systems.
