Position Overview

The Mammography Technologist, Lead oversees the technical operations of the Radiology department to ensure that mammography exams and radiologic imaging meet MIT Health standards and expectations as well as state and federal regulatory requirements. The position works closely with the manager to communicate effectively with patients and other members of the health care team. The technologist provides for the emotional, physical well-being and safety of the patient while maintaining strict standards of patient confidentiality.

The Mammography Technologist, Lead will be the point person for technical questions and will perform mammography and radiology exams.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Acts as lead and subject matter expert for all radiology activities.
  • Meets regularly with the manager to provide updates and insight.
  • Serves as a mentor and training resource to less experienced staff.
  • Responsible for maintenance of all documentation to ensure regulatory readiness for inspections.
  • Represents MIT Health Radiology during regulatory visits.
  • Performs all required QC and QA to maintain the licenses of MIT Health Radiology.
  • Ensures compliance with licensing and regulatory standards (Federal, State, ACR) in mammography and radiology.
  • Trains new radiology technologists and mammographers on all aspects of the role.
  • Interviews and assesses the technical skills of potential candidates.
  • Helps others clarify problems and adapts established approaches.
  • Makes complex decisions and recommends solutions to highly complex problems.
  • Leads projects or short-term goals and participates in department activity improvement.
  • Performs lead apron and dosimeter badge testing.
  • Operates all mammographic equipment to ensure quality as outlined in the Mammography Policy and Procedure Manual; keeps image repeat analysis below five percent.
  • Verifies proper exam in RIS system and updates information as necessary.
  • Adheres to ALARA policy by minimizing repeat imaging.
  • Prepares exams by providing prior images and necessary information to expedite interpretation.
  • Identifies opportunities for quality and process improvements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Education And Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
  • ARRT Registry Certifications in Radiography RT® and Mammography RT(M) from an accredited institution;
    Massachusetts license with no constraints.
  • Massachusetts licensed in Radiography/Mammography.
  • Minimum of 4 years as a Licensed Radiology/Mammography Technologist.
  • Proven knowledge of Mammography equipment, MQSA, ACR, state, and federal regulations and ability to master tasks related to Image Quality and Safety.
  • BLS/CPR required.
  • Physical ability to lift objects up to 20 pounds and maintain steadiness.
  • Capability to stand or walk for long periods, including prolonged bending.
  • Strong multitasking, concentration, and prioritization skills.
  • Comfortable with exposure to body fluids, hazardous materials, loud noises, electrical hazards, and electromagnetic radiation.
  • Proficiency in basic computer functions including MS Office Suite.
  • Professional manner with adherence to safety guidelines.
  • Teamwork and communication skills across diverse backgrounds.
  • Detail-oriented with superb documentation skills.
