Associate Director, Global Investigations and Enterprise Risk Management, Ethics & Compliance Overview
Reporting to the Head of Global Investigations & Enterprise Risk Management, the Associate Director, Ethics & Compliance, is responsible for helping manage all aspects of Alnylam's global investigations in all markets, including conducting and reporting on investigations into reported ethics and compliance concerns and enhancing the Company's internal investigations program and speak up culture. The role will also be responsible for assisting the Head with the operation and oversight of the Company's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program, including the identification, assessment, mitigation, and reporting of enterprise risks, and with further developing the Company's enterprise risk management processes and framework.
This position will require a hybrid onsite presence out of the Cambridge, MA location.
Key Responsibilities- Conducting and assisting on investigations into reported ethics and compliance concerns, or any allegations of misconduct, as required;
- Assisting with the design and implementation of enhancements to Alnylam's speak up program and culture, including drafting of policies and procedures, and development and implementation of relevant trainings and resources in accordance with applicable global laws and practices;
- Drafting concise and accurate investigation reports and presentations, and providing an overview of the key issues, findings, trends, and outcomes related to investigations to senior management and business leaders;
- Presenting updates on investigations, including investigation trends and remediation, to the Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer (CECO) and other cross-functional senior leaders at various forums (e.g., regular updates to Legal, Human Resources, Internal Audit, and Compliance Committees, as necessary);
- Monitoring Alnylam's global database of reported ethics and compliance matters, the Alnylam Helpline, and other global reporting channels for the intake of complaints;
- Managing Alnylam's case management software system, including updating matter information in the system and working with vendor on system enhancements and updates, as necessary;
- Working closely and collaboratively with key internal stakeholders, including Human Resources, People Relations, and Legal on matters, including with respect to the remediation of matters and recommendations for appropriate disciplinary action;
- Supporting the Company's global ERM program and related processes by conducting enterprise risk assessments and risk mitigation planning, partnering with cross-functional enterprise leaders, including Finance, Internal Audit, IT, Procurement, and Legal, among others;
- Preparing enterprise risk reports and other presentations on the ERM program and annual risk assessments for key stakeholders;
- Overseeing the Company's risk management software system, including by managing risk and risk assessment information in the system, and working with the vendor to make system enhancements as necessary and to align with the ERM program;
- Helping manage ERM oversight committee meetings, and coordinating with key stakeholders to continue advancing Alnylam's ERM program;
- Assisting with the design and implementation of enhancements to Alnylam's ERM program, including drafting of governance materials and development of related processes and systems.
- A Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and work-related experience is required;
- A law degree is strongly preferred;
- 8+ years' related experience, including law firm and/or in-house experience leading and managing global ethics and compliance investigations in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry, and experience managing enterprise risk management programs;
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally with U.S. and ex-U.S. personnel;
- Comprehensive knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to global pharmaceutical companies, including U.S. healthcare fraud and abuse laws, anti-corruption laws, such as the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the U.K. Bribery Act (2010), U.S. fraud and abuse and false claims laws, and relevant industry codes on interactions with healthcare professionals;
- Experience working with case management and enterprise risk management software systems;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in written and spoken English required;
- Possess an innovative mindset and have an ability to take a practical, solutions-oriented approach;
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, with a strong focus on partnerships;
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, to work independently and manage discrete areas of responsibility, and to flourish in a fast-paced environment;
