Forward Deployed Engineer

Overview

Sigma Squared is seeking a highly skilled Forward Deployed Engineer to join the team. In this role you will design, build, and deploy high-impact technical solutions that power our most strategic customer engagements. Sitting at the intersection of engineering, product, and GTM, you'll be responsible for turning cutting-edge capabilities into real, production-grade systems for our users.

• Work with customers to understand their processes, customize integrations to their needs, and ingest & make sense of large quantities of data.
• Write high quality, testable, maintainable code while working closely with data scientists and other engineers.
• Share ideas for improving the product, the technology, and the process.
• Contribute to code reviews, infrastructure improvements, software architecture, and more.
• Deliver end-to-end solutions for Sigma Squared’s largest and most complex customers, from scoping requirements to shipping production systems.
• Collaborate closely with Sales and GTM to close high-impact deals, activate new accounts, and expand customer value over time.
• Shape Sigma Squared’s product direction by identifying reusable patterns, surfacing field insights, and informing prioritization across engineering and product.
• Scope, sequence, and execute delivery across multiple work streams while balancing speed, quality, and technical complexity.
• Write production-grade code across the stack to prototype, validate, and ship solutions quickly.

• 2–5+ years of software engineering or technical deployment experience, including customer-facing work.
• Demonstrated track record of shipping high-quality features or systems at scale.
• Ability to translate ambiguous business and product problems into clear engineering solutions.
• Strong skills writing and reviewing production code in Python, Type Script, or comparable full-stack technologies.
• Experience building or deploying systems using LLMs or generative models (preferred).
• Comfort operating in fast-paced, high-ambiguity environments where judgment, communication, and speed matter.
• Ability to simplify complexity, spot risks early, and make sound trade-offs between scope, pace, and quality.
• This role is based in our Cambridge, MA office and is on-site full time.

Some things you’ll probably do

• Onboard new customers and help get them live, navigating the complexities of securely gaining access to sensitive data and integrating it into our platform.
• Build a bespoke customization or feature for a specific client to rapidly deliver value, then work with the team to generalize & deliver it to other clients
• Engineer a new feature with the data science team to input into a data science model.
• Integrate with a new external data provider to ingest data automatically.
• Rearchitect parts of the backend to support additional scale or improve performance.
• Improve the data management and admin backend with new features.
• Work with an AI LLM to automate part of the data transformation process.
