Cambridge Brands Inc., a division of Tootsie Roll Industries, is the home of the longest‑running candy manufacturing plant in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where Junior Mints, Sugar Babies, Charleston Chews, Junior Caramels, Tootsie Mini Bites, and Mini Bites are produced.
Cambridge Brands Inc. is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to manage and oversee all controls and electrical systems within its Cambridge, Massachusetts plant. Responsibilities include electrical design, PLC/HMI programming, reading and creating control schematics in AutoCAD Electrical, and maintaining and troubleshooting electrical/electronic systems. This leadership position has direct reports including three Plant Electricians, for which the Controls Engineer will be responsible for mentoring, training, and managing.
The position is full‑time, salaried, and will work first shift with occasional overtime as needed.
- Design, build, and maintain electrical/electronic systems and equipment, including automated conveyor and packaging equipment, robotic cells, industrial communications networks, building HVAC, and lighting.
- Oversee and manage the site’s electrical department and mentor a team of Plant Electricians.
- Create, draft, red‑line, and maintain wiring schematics and system drawings.
- Adjust parameters in machines, VFDs, and servo motors.
- Troubleshoot and adjust PLC and HMI programs and tune equipment for proper operation.
- Assist in the assembly, programming, and installation of equipment as necessary.
- Provide training to internal personnel as needed.
- Communicate professionally with internal personnel, external contractors, supervisors, and plant processes.
- Observe facility operations on a regular basis and support plant process improvements.
- BSEE or BSEET degree.
- Familiarity with Allen Bradley PLC programming software and Factory Talk View.
- AutoCAD Electrical experience with projects and customization is a plus.
- Experience programming and using Siemens, B&R, Schneider, Omron, Beckhoff, Automation Direct controllers.
- Basic knowledge of food processing plants, good manufacturing practices, proper work ergonomics, and OSHA requirements for industrial applications.
- Attention to detail, self‑motivation, proactivity, energetic, friendly, outgoing personality, and creative thinking.
- Strong mechanical and electrical background with a strong interest in industrial automation and a willingness to learn and grow with the company.
