Control Room Operator (2nd Class Engineer)
Responsible for monitoring, operating, and controlling the Central Utilities Plant (CUP) facilities from the distributed control system (DCS). Ensures all CUP equipment operates within design parameters and complies with laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Conducts plant startups and shutdowns, reviews problems, incidents, and unusual events, performs routine operational tests and adjustments, maintains accurate records and logs, and conducts equipment switching and lockout/tagout procedures.
Monitors operations to optimize performance, ensures emissions control compliance, keeps facilities clean and safe, troubleshoots equipment failures, operates chillers, boilers, and other CUP equipment, and trains Plant Operators in DCS operations.
- Operate and monitor CUP facilities via DCS.
- Ensure equipment operates within design parameters and complies with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Conduct plant startups, shutdowns, and review incidents and unusual events.
- Perform routine operational tests, adjustments, and maintain accurate records and logs.
- Execute equipment switching, lockout/tagout procedures, and operating plant systems to meet specified parameters.
- Monitor operations to optimize performance and ensure emissions control compliance.
- Maintain a clean and safe facility environment.
- Troubleshoot equipment failures and operate chillers, boilers, and other CUP equipment.
- Train Plant Operators in DCS operations.
- Required
:
High School Diploma or equivalent; minimum Massachusetts 2nd Class Stationary Engineer License and Driver’s License. - Minimum of three years operating experience in power generation or a central utility plant.
- Ability to move 50 pounds, move about the jobsite and machinery to access equipment, and/or remain stationary for extended periods.
- Ability to perform work on ladders, scaffolds, and other above‑ground locations.

Hoisting License 1C and Industrial Waste Treatment Grade 2 License.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety-related uniforms must be worn as required. May work with hazardous materials. Requires extended working hours, including shift work with weekends, evenings, and holidays. May be required to perform call‑in duty. Position requires a crossover shift; employees may have schedules changed to cover other employees’ vacation periods.
