Overview
Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (MABVI) is seeking volunteers who are interested in a relationship-building and task-oriented role. Volunteers work one-to-one with visually impaired adults in their community, assisting with reading or shopping and supporting daily activities. The greatest need currently is for volunteers in the Boston region willing to travel anywhere in the City of Boston; volunteers are appreciated for traveling a minimum of 10‑15 miles.
This MABVI participant would like a volunteer to help them read mail in Cambridge, MA! They would like volunteer help once a week or bimonthly.
Responsibilities- Reading mail
- Paying bills
- Internet use and technology assistance
- Medical transportation
- Grocery shopping
- Running errands in the community
- Recreational activities such as being a running/walking sighted guide
- Other clerical tasks
Volunteer hours are flexible based on the participant’s needs. Volunteers typically devote 1-2 hours a week or every other week.
Volunteer Onboarding Process- Complete the MABVI Volunteer application
- Complete the online, modular MABVI Volunteer Training
- Schedule a Zoom chat with a member of the MABVI Volunteer Team or submit a CORI
- Meet the MABVI Volunteer Team via Zoom or phone call
- MABVI matches you with a MABVI participant
