Postdoctoral Associate – Circuit Neuroscience and Therapeutics

Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard is seeking distinguished postdoctoral scholars to join a research group led by Prabhat Kunwar, PhD. The group focuses on uncovering the neural circuits underlying psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar, and translating these findings into innovative therapeutics. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the Sheng lab (headed by Morgan Sheng, MD, PhD) and will be co‑monitored by Dr.

Sheng.

Responsibilities
  • Formulate hypotheses and design experiments to probe cellular and circuit‑level mechanisms of psychiatric disorders.
  • Execute experiments, including optical imaging (fiber photometry, miniscope), electrophysiology, circuit mapping, and chemo genetics.
  • Analyze neural recordings and behavioral data using computational methods.
  • Interpret data, write, and publish original research papers in collaboration with Stanley Center scientists.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, including other Therapeutics groups within the Stanley Center.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in neuroscience or a related field.
  • 0–1+ years of post‑graduate research experience.
  • At least one first‑author research article published or accepted in a peer‑reviewed journal.
  • Experience with optical imaging and computational data analysis of neural recordings and behavior.
  • Additional experience with electrophysiology, optogenetics, chemo genetics, and circuit perturbation techniques is a plus.
  • Experience with rodent models, behavioral assays, surgeries, and brain histology.
  • Proficiency in basic molecular cell biology and imaging methods.
  • Strong initiative to drive independent research projects.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
Compensation and Benefits

70,000 – 92,667 USD annually.
