Senior Scientist

Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Scientist in Protein Science (Purification and Characterization) for an patient-centered drug developer located in Cambridge, Massachusetts (MA). The Senior Scientist will be responsible for purifying and characterizing recombinant proteins to support early-stage drug discovery by providing high-quality reagents for downstream research applications. This is an eight month contract position based in the Boston / Cambridge area of Massachusetts.

• Purify recombinant proteins (cytosolic, secreted, membrane-bound) using AKTA systems.
• Perform biophysical and quality control analyses (e.g., mass spectrometry, HPLC).
• Develop and optimize protein purification strategies for diverse targets.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support early-stage drug discovery.
• Contribute to project meetings with experimental insights and reagent planning.
• Support downstream applications like structural biology, screening, and assay development.

• PhD with 2–4 years of relevant experience OR BS / MS with 6– years of relevant experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with AKTA purification systems and protein purification protocols.
• Proficiency in mass spectrometry and other biophysical techniques.
• Familiarity with drug discovery workflows and reagent requirements.
• Ability to multitask, communicate effectively, and work in a collaborative R&D environment.

Experience with Waters Bio Accord MS and techniques like thermal shift assays or light scattering.
