A leading organisation is seeking a Scientist III (R&D) to join its Oligonucleotide/Peptide Purification Development team in Cambridge, MA. This onsite role offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of robust, high-purity processes for oligonucleotide and peptide therapeutics, supporting both clinical and commercial manufacturing.
The Scientist III will be responsible for developing and characterising purification processes, including process development, process characterisation, and scale-up for unit operations such as chromatography, detritylation, and ultrafiltration/diafiltration. The role involves learning and advancing oligonucleotide and peptide purification platforms, exploring novel purification steps, and acting as a subject matter expert within cross-functional teams. Responsibilities also include supporting technology transfer activities, troubleshooting on the manufacturing floor, authoring regulatory sections for IND submissions, and leading pilot scale activities.
The successful candidate will document laboratory work, mentor new employees, and collaborate across teams to improve process understanding.
Candidates should have a proven record of planning and executing scientific projects, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Technical proficiency in purification of proteins, peptides, or DNA/RNA using column chromatography (such as ion exchange, hydrophobic interaction, or reversed phase) and ultrafiltration/diafiltration is required. Hands-on experience in analytical techniques, including HPLC and UV/Vis spectroscopy, is preferred. Familiarity with AKTA purification systems, Unicorn software, and statistical design or analysis is advantageous.
Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related life science field with 2-4 years of industry experience, or a master's degree with 0-2 years of experience. Senior-level candidates require additional experience as specified.
