Overview
OC Public Libraries (OCPL) invites applications for a Library Clerk position. The role involves library circulation desk duties, customer service, and occasional equipment maintenance. The library serves 33 branch locations across Orange County.
Responsibilities- Provides library patrons with information in person or by phone, including informing about policies and procedures and refilling patrons to appropriate personnel.
- Operates a computer terminal for circulation services: charging, discharging, renewals, patron registration, inquiries, fines, and over dues; updates the database by adding or deleting book, periodical, or cassette records.
- Collects overdue fines and performs simple financial transactions.
- May perform opening/closing circulation desk procedures, including balancing receipts and verifying drawer cash.
- Assists in ordering and maintaining branch supplies.
- May act as lead clerk in absence of supervisor or lead and assist in training new or part-time circulation desk staff and volunteers.
- Operates various office and library equipment; may perform minor equipment maintenance.
- One year general clerical experience or six months related library experience.
- Good communication and customer service skills required.
- Related education can substitute for up to six months experience; three units of coursework that developed the above skills equal one month experience.
Positions require standing for extended periods while assisting patrons in checking material in and out. Must be able to lift and move books and materials weighing up to twenty pounds. Incumbents must also be able to operate a keyboard and use a laser barcode reader.
