Overview

The estimator will be tasked with analyzing bid specifications, subcontractor quotes, and drawings to prepare a comprehensive cost proposal. This role involves the thorough evaluation of project requirements, the preparation of detailed cost estimates, and the presentation of these estimates to project stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed cost estimates based on project plans, specifications, and drawings. This includes material, labor, equipment, and other associated costs.
  • Analyze historical data to provide accurate and competitive estimates.
  • Prepare and submit bid proposals for projects, ensuring all necessary documentation and compliance with client requirements.
  • Identify potential project risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Coordinate with various departments to ensure accuracy and completeness of estimates.
  • Prepare detailed reports outlining estimated costs, assumptions, and justifications for estimates provided.
  • Maintain records of all estimates, correspondence, and project-related documents for project data and future reference.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and job site visits as required.
  • Complete take-offs for bid preparation utilizing estimating software.
  • Provide estimating support to other departments as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 4-year degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience required.
  • 2+ years construction estimating, engineering or similar experience preferred.
  • General knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control, and material pricing required.
  • An ability to calculate mathematical extensions, read and understand engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, cost coding systems, etc. is essential.
  • Detail-oriented, organized and ability to multi-task in a high-volume, deadline driven environment.
  • Excellent problem solving, time management and decision‑making skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent communication skills; verbal, written, and interpersonal.
  • Work will involve being in an office setting and will require onsite bid meetings.
  • The role requires the ability to meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.

Other:
* Candidates must complete a mandatory field stint which will be established by the Estimating Manager for up to 6 months to gain a comprehensive understanding of Bi‑Con's methods and practices.*
