Overview
Licensed Practical Nurse, PT at Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities – Cambridge Developmental Center.
The final applicant selected may be required to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment.
Responsibilities- Perform skilled practical nursing procedures or treatments (e.g., administer oxygen; conduct blood glucose testing; apply sterile dressings; insert catheters; give enemas and douches; collect specimens).
- Assist physicians with client and new employee physical exams, treatments and/or lab tests; assist in emergencies (e.g., first aid, CPR, restraining clients).
- Conduct neurological and circulation assessments and administer medications in oral, rectal or injection form; provide medication instructions to clients.
- Maintain medication records, chart client records, prepare and count medications, maintain medication stock and medical equipment and supplies.
- Provide general nursing and direct care (e.g., vital signs, personal grooming and hygiene, bathing, daily living activities) and administer topical treatments and eye/ear/nose drops.
- Assist in training lower-level direct care staff and participate in meetings as assigned (e.g., in-service training, nursing meetings).
- Observe, document and report client conditions and treatment responses; prepare and maintain related reports and records; perform clerical tasks as required.
- Knowledge of skilled licensed practical nursing procedures; pharmacology; client care; first aid; general hospital practices and procedures.
- Skill in use of medical equipment (e.g., respirator, sterilizer, oxygen equipment, blood pressure cuff, hypodermics).
- Ability to understand practical concepts, recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate emergency action; develop good rapport with patients/clients; follow manuals and verbal instructions related to practical nursing.
- License to practice nursing as a licensed practical nurse issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723 Ohio Revised Code; proof of completion of an approved course in medication administration.
- Note:
Licensed Practical Nurses who administer dialysis treatment must possess Certification in IV Therapy.
