Duties- Performs skilled practical nursing procedures or treatments (e.g. administers oxygen; conducts blood glucose testing; applies sterile dressing, inserts catheters; gives enemas & douches; collects specimens).
- Assists physicians with client & new employee physical exams, treatments & lab tests; assists in emergencies (e.g. first aid, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, restraining clients).
- Conducts neurological & circulation assessments; manages medication in oral, rectal or injection form (e.g. intramuscular & subcutaneous injections & TB skin tests); provides medication instructions to clients.
- Maintains medication records; prepares & counts medication, maintains medication stock & medical equipment & supplies.
- Provides general nursing and direct care (e.g. vital signs, personal grooming, hygiene, bathing, daily living activities; topical applications; eye/ear/nose drops; bandages & cold/heat therapy) and escorts clients with recreational activities.
- Provides assistance to lower-level direct care staff; attends meetings as assigned.
- Observes, documents & reports client conditions; prepares and maintains related reports and records.
License to practice nursing as a licensed practical nurse issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723 Ohio Revised Code; MDS certification issued by ANNAC.
Note:
Licensed Practical Nurses who administer dialysis must possess Certification in IV Therapy pursuant to Section 4723.17 Ohio Revised Code.
Knowledge of skilled licensed practical nursing procedures; pharmacology; client care; first aid; general hospital practices; and related procedures. Ability to understand practical field of study; recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate emergency action; develop good rapport with patients and/or clients; understand manuals and verbal instructions related to practical nursing.
