The Role

We're looking for a proactive, detail-driven Planner to join Wates Construction.

You will play a key role in developing and managing fully integrated project programmes, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.

We look forward to hearing from individuals passionate about great planning, collaborative working and driving performance through data-led programme control.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Planner, you will support one or more projects through all stages of delivery: tender, preconstruction, delivery and close‐out, owning the programme and shaping how we plan, track and report performance.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Develop fully integrated and resourced programmes in Asta Power project, aligned to scope, sequence, constraints and project strategy; maintain regular progress updates and forecasting.
  • Work with the project team to collect site records, track progress and issue clear programme reports in line with company procedures and best practice.
  • Liaise with internal teams and external planners/stakeholders to agree a robust baseline programme prior to works commencing and manage changes through controlled updates.
  • Produce look‑aheads, short‑term programmes, claim programmes, cause‑and‑effect studies, labour/resource histograms and recovery plans where required.
  • Contribute to bid planning, methodology, phasing and logistics narratives, offering clear, cost‑effective planning solutions at tender stage.
  • Support risk identification and mitigation, carry out basic delay analysis and provide programme intelligence to inform commercial positions.
  • Review problem operations with the Project Manager and feed lessons learned into future planning and estimating.
  • Attend project and planning meetings as needed and ensure all planning deliverables meet our internal operating procedures and quality standards.
  • Promote a safety‑first culture, challenge unsafe practice and ensure programme logic reflects safe, buildable methods and sequencing.
What We're Looking For In You
  • Solid understanding of project planning and progress reporting across construction.
  • Experience with labour/resource planning, basic delay analysis and construction methodologies from design through commissioning.
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to support on‑time, on‑budget delivery.
Qualifications
  • HNC/Degree in Construction Management, or a related discipline (desired).
  • Planning experience across different construction sectors.
Skills
  • Proficient user of Asta Power project (essential).
  • Strong MS Office skills (Word and Excel in particular).
  • Good appreciation of contracts and their requirements.
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary & profit share scheme.
  • Flexible working.
  • Car Allowance / Company Car (subject to Role/Grade).
  • Travel covered to any of our sites (subject to HMRC advisory rates).
  • Extensive corporate benefits including Private Medical, Pension 8% employers' contribution, Health and Wellness programme, 26 days holidays + bank holidays and much more...
  • Excellent range of learning and development activity to support your career progression.
  • Industry leading family leave benefits to include 26 weeks fully paid maternity, 12 weeks fully paid paternity.
