Assistant Professor – Sensor Technologies

The Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CEB) seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in Sensor Technologies from April 2026. Upon successful completion of probation the role will convert to Associate Professor.

The post holder will lead the new MRes in Sensor Technologies and Applications (), launching in October 2026, and will conduct world‑leading research, contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and collaborate with the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Sensor Technologies and Applications ().

Responsibilities
  • Lead an internationally competitive research group in sensor technologies.
  • Deliver the MRes programme and teach across the Chemical Engineering Tripos (research/teaching split ~60:40).
  • Write and edit high‑quality research publications and secure external funding.
  • Supervise and examine students at all levels.
  • Share in administrative duties and participate in department and university committees (Sustainability, Wellbeing, Athena Swan, Green Committees).
Qualifications
  • Internationally recognised research profile in sensor technologies or a closely related area, supporting sustainability or healthcare impact areas.
  • Strong teaching record and willingness to teach outside one’s immediate research area.
  • Evidence of high‑quality publications and secure external funding.
  • Experience in supervision, examination, and team leadership.
