Governors for Schools is looking for a Chair of Governors to volunteer for a primary school in Cambridge. The role offers personal and professional development and the chance to influence the future of local education.

• Lead the governing board, setting the strategic direction and monitoring the performance of the school.
• Act as a ‘critical friend’ to the head teacher, ensuring accountability and helping to monitor and evaluate the school’s progress, budget and staffing.
• Shape and implement future plans, guiding the school’s aims, ethos and values.
• Represent the school to parents, teachers, pupils and the wider community.

• Over 18 and happy to undergo a DBS check.
• Leadership experience, preferably in a primary or secondary school setting.
• Knowledge of project and premises management is beneficial.
• Professional skills such as HR, finance, law or project management are useful but softer skills such as leadership, communication, problem solving and a fresh perspective are essential.
• Commitment to education, the school community and a willingness to be a ‘critical friend’ to the head teacher.
