Location: Meldreth

We are supporting a specialist independent SEN day school that provides a highly tailored learning environment for children and young people aged 6 to 19. The school supports learners with a range of needs including Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), Autism, ADHD, and associated challenges. Many pupils also have complex medical needs, sensory processing difficulties, and physical impairments, requiring a calm, structured, and highly individualised approach.

SEN Teaching Assistant

Location:

Meldreth, near Royston (Cambridgeshire / Hertfordshire border)

Salary: £13.50 – £14.50 per hour (dependent on experience and qualifications)

Hours:

Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Term time only

Role responsibilities:

Support pupils with their learning, development, and progress across all areas of the curriculum

Work with pupils in a variety of settings, including the classroom, outdoor learning spaces, the local environment, and the wider community

Support children and young people with a wide range of needs, including PMLD, complex medical needs, and autism

Help create a positive, inclusive environment where every learner is valued, respected, and supported

Focus on empowering pupils and encouraging independence wherever possible

Provide consistent, high-quality support in line with individual education and care plans

Participate in personal care routines and physical intervention when required

Be flexible in your approach, supporting wherever needed across the school

Skills and qualifications:

A willingness to work towards formal qualifications and attend training (fully funded)

A genuine passion for working with children and young people with additional needs

Resilience, ambition, and determination to overcome barriers to learning

An interest in outdoor learning and community-based activities

The ability to see potential beyond disability

A proactive, solution-focused mindset

Strong commitment to safeguarding and child protection

Ability to work well as part of a team and independently when required

Strong communication skills, particularly when supporting pupils with complex communication needs

The ability to deliver effective support tailored to individual needs

GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English at Level 2 or above
