Communication Support Worker
Are you passionate about breaking down barriers to education? We are looking for a dedicated Communication Support Worker to join our Supported Learning team. In this vital role, you will empower d/Deaf and hearing‑impaired learners by ensuring they have optimal access to their education, training, and college life.
The RoleAs a Communication Support Worker, you will work under the guidance of the Head of Learning Support to facilitate communication between students, staff, and peers. You will play a key part in ensuring high outcomes for students by providing technical, linguistic, and moral support across a variety of educational settings.
Key Responsibilities- In-Class Support: Facilitate access using BSL/SSE, note‑taking, lip speaking, and language modification.
- Collaboration: Advise teaching staff on modifying learning materials and environments to meet student needs.
- Resource Preparation: Adapt curriculum language, transcribe videos, and prepare specialized learning materials.
- Technical Assistance: Help students utilize technical aids like radio aids and minicoms.
- Beyond the Classroom: Support learners during exams, college trips, and residential visits.
We are seeking a resourceful and diplomatic professional who is committed to continuous professional development.
Essential Requirements- Qualifications: Full Level 3 Certificate in British Sign Language and a Level 2 qualification (GCSE equivalent) in Maths and English.
- Experience: Proven experience supporting learners in an educational establishment or Further Education (FE) setting.
- Skills: Excellent interpersonal and administrative skills, with the ability to modify written materials and communicate course content effectively at all levels.
- Flexibility: Willingness to travel for off‑site activities and work occasional evenings or weekends.
- Salary: £25,192 - £27,152 per annum (pro‑rated).
- Contract: Permanent, Term Time only.
- Hours: 37 hours per week.
