Position: Higher Level Teaching Assistant
About the role:

justteachers are seeking a skilled and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join a specialist education setting in the outskirts of Cambridge. This full-time role is available for an immediate start and offers an excellent opportunity to take on a more advanced support position within a structured and nurturing SEN environment. As an HLTA, you will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning across the setting, including leading lessons, delivering targeted interventions, and helping to drive pupil progress.

This role is ideal for a confident and proactive individual who is passionate about supporting pupils with additional needs and making a meaningful impact.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead lessons and learning activities in the absence of the teacher
  • Deliver targeted interventions to individuals and small groups of pupils with SEN
  • Support teachers with planning, preparation, and adaptation of learning materials
  • Promote positive behaviour and support emotional regulation strategies
  • Support pupils’ academic, social, and personal development
  • Monitor, assess, and report on pupil progress
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and wider professionals
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
Pre-requisites:
  • HLTA status or equivalent experience within a school setting
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN (e.g., ASD, SEMH, complex needs)
  • Strong understanding of the national curriculum and differentiated learning
  • Confidence in leading classes and delivering structured learning activities
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A proactive, adaptable, and resilient approach
  • Ability to build strong relationships with pupils and staff
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
