ALittle More About Your Role
You'll be working alongside a host of talented people ranging from early career professionals to established engineers and project managers across the Roads business. The role is based in the London & South East region, in one of our offices:
Cambridge, London (Westferry Circus), Basingstoke, Guildford, or Southampton.
Working in partnership with National Highways and Local Authority clients you will be involved in a diverse range of projects including active travel, digital design (including 3D modelling), strategic network improvements, major and minor maintenance, alignment, road safety, and public realm. The workload is varied – from major strategic highways projects such as Smart Motorways to small and medium local authority highways infrastructure improvement schemes.
Responsibilities- Prepare designs and specifications in accordance with the Design Manual Roads Bridges (DMRB).
- Develop designs using AutoCAD and Civil3D.
- Deliver work packages with scope to move up to managing schemes and multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Provide support to Project Managers within the design team in planning, programming, technical input to the pricing of project briefs, proposals, deliverables and cost estimation.
- Be accountable for checking, certifying and authorising for issue designs, documents, approvals, and reports.
- Manage graduate engineers and technicians to deliver work packages coordinating engineering resources.
- Work collaboratively with clients and key stakeholders as necessary to deliver the schemes/projects.
- Mentor and upskill more junior staff, helping them develop professionally and progress towards professional qualifications.
- A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent within a highway design role.
- Working towards IEng or CEng status with a professional institute; professional qualifications are advantageous.
- Highways design experience in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).
- Experience of complying with Designers Duties under CDM.
- Experience in delivery of geometric designs using Auto Desk Civil3D is advantageous.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation, standards and procedures including the application of departures from standard.
- NEC and/or Project Management experience is advantageous.
- A passion for design and developing innovative solutions.
- Demonstrated initiative and ingenuity in solving engineering problems.
