Senior Photonic Integrated Design Engineer​/Applications Engineer

Overview

Based in Cambridge, the global organization with offices around the world is looking to recruit a Photonics Lead and a Junior Photonics Engineer. The roles involve photonic integrated circuits, nano‑ and micro‑fabricated optics, nonlinear systems, quantum photonics, and optical design using tools such as Zemax.

• Specification, design, fabrication/test, and validation of complex PICs or photonic systems.
• Hands‑on photonic design/simulation (Lumerical, Ansys, Synopsys, or equivalent) and PIC layout (Synopsys, Luceda, Nazca).
• Engagement with the photonics ecosystem (fabs, packaging, test).
• Deep knowledge of PIC platforms (SiPh, SiN, InP), integration methods and test strategies.
• Proven ability to lead engineers, make technical trade‑offs and collaborate across disciplines.
• Commercial competence and client engagement, as speaking with clients will be part of the role.

• PhD in Physics, Electronics, or semiconductor‑related technologies.

• Experience in photonic/optical compute technologies.
• Experience in high‑speed PICs for data communications.
• Experience in free‑space optical communication.
