Location: Cambridgeshire

This Senior Energy Engineer position is based in Stevenage, Hertfordshire and offers a salary of up to £57,000 plus benefits. The role is with a well-established facilities management organisation, supporting the energy and engineering teams at a prestigious, high-profile site. This site-based position would suit an experienced Energy Engineer or Building Services Engineer with a strong background in energy management, HVAC systems, facilities management or engineering projects.

The successful candidate will support energy and carbon reduction programmes, provide technical oversight, supervise contractors and coordinate project delivery within a live operational environment. The role also involves commissioning, fault finding, system optimisation, permit-to-work management, site inspections and supporting energy performance improvements. Strong knowledge of HVAC and building services, contractor management, health and safety, and permit-to-work procedures is essential. What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting the delivery of energy and carbon reduction programmes across the site.
  • Providing technical and operational support to energy, engineering and decarbonisation projects.
  • Carrying out fault finding, diagnosis, testing, repairs and optimisation of HVAC and associated building services systems.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve energy efficiency, system performance and operational reliability.
  • Supporting commissioning, testing and handover activities for completed energy improvement projects.
  • Supervising contractors undertaking energy and infrastructure improvement works across the site.
  • Reviewing contractor RAMS and ensuring works are completed safely and in line with site requirements.
  • Conducting contractor inductions, site briefings and toolbox talks where required.
  • Acting as an authorised Permit Issuer, managing permits including hot works, work at height, confined space and electrical and mechanical isolations.
  • Verifying isolations and safe systems of work before activities commence.
  • Carrying out routine site inspections and contractor safety audits.
  • Monitoring plant performance and supporting the analysis and reporting of site energy consumption.
  • Maintaining accurate records relating to permits, isolations, engineering changes and project activities.
  • Working closely with facilities, engineering and operations teams to coordinate works within a live operational environment.
  • Providing updates on project progress, risks and site constraints to the Energy Programme Manager.
  • Ensuring all works comply with company procedures, site standards, engineering requirements and relevant legislation.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience within energy engineering, building services, facilities management or a similar engineering environment.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience of HVAC and associated building services systems.
  • Experience with fault finding, testing, repair and optimisation of mechanical plant and equipment.
  • Understanding of energy efficiency, carbon reduction and sustainability initiatives.
  • Experience supervising and coordinating contractors on live operational sites.
  • Knowledge of Permit to Work systems and safe systems of work.
  • Experience managing or reviewing RAMS and contractor documentation.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Experience working within a regulated or technically complex environment would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work closely with engineering teams, contractors and client representatives.
