We are currently seeking a talented VFX Artist to join our dedicated Visual Effects team and help bring our next generation of immersive experiences to life. This is a multi-faceted role that requires a strong grasp of VFX principles and a passion for creating stunning, believable effects that elevate gameplay and visual storytelling. This opportunity is available on a full in-studio basis or via a flexible hybrid model (requiring a minimum of three days per week in the studio).

To ensure a smooth transition, Frontier provides a comprehensive relocation support package for candidates who need to relocate to the UK.

What's the Role?

As a VFX Artist at Frontier, you will play an essential role in bridging technical execution and artistic expression. You will work alongside our VFX team to plan and deliver both realistic and stylized effects, utilizing our proprietary game engine (Cobra) and bespoke in-house tools. Your work will directly influence how players experience dynamic phenomena within our games, ensuring every explosion, spark, or environmental cloud is visually striking and performance-optimized.

Key Responsibilities & What You'll Be Doing:
  • Collaborate with the VFX team to plan and deliver realistic and stylized visual effects using our proprietary game engine (Cobra) and advanced internal tools.
  • Create high-quality effects such as fire, smoke, explosions, debris, and atmospheric clouds using our in-house particle editor and standard software suites.
  • Influence the ongoing evolution and development of internal technologies, pipelines, and creation tools.
  • Work closely with Art and Design teams on all visual effect aspects throughout the complete cycle of game development.
  • Partner seamlessly with artists, designers, animators, and programmers to achieve cutting-edge, next-generation visuals.
  • Ensure all VFX elements are efficient, performant, and creatively impactful within target frame rates.
What You'll Bring (Requirements & Skills):

To thrive in this creative and technical position, candidates must demonstrate a solid mix of artistic execution and technical awareness:

  • Previous professional experience as a VFX Artist or a strong, diverse portfolio demonstrating high-level VFX skills.
  • Deep understanding of core VFX principles: gameplay integration, shape, timing, motion, contrast, colour, and composition.
  • Strong attention to detail and observational skills for creating authentic, dynamic, and believable effects.
  • Solid knowledge of real-time game engines and particle systems.
  • Proven ability to balance the aesthetic beauty and technical performance aspects of VFX.
  • Proactive and inquisitive approach to complex problem-solving.
  • Great communication and collaboration skills across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Keen awareness of memory footprints and performance considerations in real-time VFX creation.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software such as Maya, Janga Suite, Photoshop, After Effects, Houdini, or equivalent tools.
  • Continuous awareness of broader industry technology trends.
Bonus Skills & Nice-to-Haves:
  • Practical knowledge of game lighting setups and full-screen FX systems.
  • Professional experience in the film industry working within real-time environments.
