The Vacancy
Based at our Histon office, with regular travel across Cambridgeshire. Potential for Hybrid Working - minimum 1 day per week.
We're looking for a motivated and customer-focused Housing Officer to join our friendly General Needs Housing Team at CHS.
You’ll manage a patch of around 420 rented and shared ownership homes across Cambridgeshire, building positive relationships with customers and helping to create neighbourhoods where people are proud to live.
At CHS, our mission is to enable people to flourish, by providing security and creating opportunities, through the delivery of high-quality Cambridgeshire-based homes with support.
If you want a role where the work you do has a genuine impact on people’s lives and the communities around them, we’d love to hear from you.
About the roleThis is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You’ll be out and about regularly - meeting customers, carrying out tenancy visits and estate inspections, working with partner agencies and tackling issues in our neighbourhoods. You’ll have the autonomy to manage your own patch and the support of an experienced and collaborative team around you.
You’ll take responsibility for all aspects of tenancy and estate management across your patch, balancing effective housing management with a compassionate, customer-focused approach.
- Build positive and professional relationships with customers, understanding their circumstances and helping them sustain their tenancies.
- Work proactively to maximise rental and service charge income and support customers to meet the terms of their tenancy agreements.
- Manage anti-social behaviour cases, taking appropriate action and working with customers, colleagues and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes.
- Carry out tenancy visits, estate inspections and other neighbourhood activities to make sure our communities are safe, well-managed and places where people are proud to live.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies to support customers and resolve complex issues.
- Make sure our homes are let efficiently and fairly.
- Involve customers in shaping and improving our services and look for ways to make the customer experience better.
- Organise and prioritise your own workload, making sound decisions and managing your patch with minimal supervision.
- Provide a responsive and professional service while balancing the needs of individual customers with the wider needs of our communities.
We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people and wants to make a positive difference. You’ll need to be comfortable managing competing priorities, sometimes having difficult conversations and finding practical solutions to problems.
You’ll be a confident communicator who can build effective relationships with customers, colleagues and partner agencies. You’ll be organised, proactive and able to make good decisions, even when dealing with challenging or complex situations.
You’ll have:- A genuine commitment to providing excellent customer service and making a positive contribution from day one.
- Good knowledge of housing management, tenancy sustainment, welfare benefits and collaborative multi-agency working.
- Excellent time management and decision-making skills.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- The ability to manage your own workload and work effectively with minimal supervision.
- A flexible and adaptable approach, with the ability to respond positively to changing priorities.
- Competence in using Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a car for work purposes, with appropriate business-use insurance.
Above all, you’ll be someone who believes that good housing management is about more…
