Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the nursing team working in Haematology and Oncology as the Clinical Educator. This post is a secondment to cover maternity leave. You will need to have experience as a paediatric haematology and oncology nurse, who is highly motivated and has a passion for teaching and staff development, whilst ensuring that expert care is delivered to our patients and families at all times.
CUH is a Principal Treatment Centre for Paediatric Haematology and Oncology patients and you will will be working with a team of consultants, speciality doctors, Clinical Nurse Specialists, ward and clinic nurses as well as the wider multi-disciplinary team. The unit cares for children from a point of diagnosis, treating children with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, as well as high dose therapy treatments for haematological and oncological conditions from across the East of England.
You will support the unit clinically and and focus on the training and development of all staff groups with the the support of the managers, clinical band 6 teams and the practice development team within Children's Services. Elements of the the role will include supporting staff to gain their oral and intravenous drug and and chemotherapy competencies, as well as as delivering safe and effective patient care to to this group of patients
Main duties of the jobAs the Clinical Educator for paediatric oncology and haematology you will be expected to provide clinical expertise necessary for the efficient management of the unit on a daily basis, undertaking a full range of clinical duties relevant to the area of practice and promoting the highest standards of patient care.
You will also be expected to promote that care is delivered according to policies and procedure and based on best practice from national information, implementing change when appropriate / necessary.
You will monitor and maintain the the quality of the clinical environment with particular reference to Trust and Departmental Health and Safety and infection control.
You will also be expected to assist in the development and implementation of the departmental policies and and procedures and ensure compliance.
On a daily basis, you will help organise the daily allocation of work in conjunction with the team leader and other clinical leaders, taking into account the development needs of the the staff.
Your educational responsibilities will be far reaching covering all staff on PDU and C2, ensuring mandatory training is up to date, as well as developing teaching strategies to promote and enhance the care that is provided to this patient group. You will work with the wider Practice Development team to ensure an orientation and education package is delivered across Children's Services as a whole.
