42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

About the role

We are seeking a skilled and dependable General Operative to join our Repairs and Maintenance team following a recent internal promotion. This hands‑on role requires a mix of practical ability, customer service, and teamwork. You’ll be responsible for a wide range of tasks that help maintain our properties to a high standard.

Role Responsibilities
  • Supporting with brickwork repairs and concreting.
  • Gutter clearance.
  • Using ladders to support fixing roofs on two‑story properties.
  • Supporting the roofers in day‑to‑day tasks such as flat roofs, pitched roofs and lead work.
  • Working collaboratively within the Repairs and Maintenance team, where strong teamwork and reliability are essential.
  • Delivering excellent customer service across all tasks, maintaining a professional and customer‑focused attitude.
  • Communicating effectively with colleagues and residents, using clear verbal communication and good interpersonal skills.
  • Making decisions and solving problems independently when needed, demonstrating confidence and initiative.
  • Maintaining high standards of safety, quality and cost control, with a methodical and dependable approach to work.
Role Criteria
  • Experience in the above responsibilities.
  • Proven experience in general property repairs, refurbishment or maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and safe working practices.
  • Excellent customer service skills, especially when working in tenanted properties.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team across varied environments.
  • Good organisational skills with a focus on quality and cost control.
  • Comfortable working in both residential and communal areas under contract guidelines.
  • A proactive approach to problem‑solving and delivering practical solutions.
  • Full UK driving licence.

To drive a Mears vehicle, you must be aged over 21, have held your licence for over 3 months and have less than 9 points.
