Shift Mechanical Engineer

Cambridge — £50,000 + Benefits — Leading UK Facilities Management provider in a pharmaceutical environment with critical building services.

Full Time, Permanent, Continental Shift Pattern.

Shift Pattern
  • 2 Days On / 2 Days Off
  • 3 Days On / 3 Days Off
  • Rotating shift pattern offering an excellent work‑life balance
Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across mechanical and building services systems.
  • Maintain and repair HVAC systems, pumps, pipework, pressurised systems, and associated mechanical plant.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out effective root‑cause analysis to minimise downtime.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of critical mechanical infrastructure.
  • Complete maintenance records, compliance documentation, and reports accurately.
  • Work in line with GMP standards, health & safety regulations, and site procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability and energy efficiency.
  • Work closely with clients, stakeholders, subcontractors, and the wider engineering team to maintain service excellence.
  • Support contractual KPIs and service delivery standards.
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship, professionalism, and customer service at all times.
Qualifications
  • Mechanical Engineering qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, Apprenticeship, or equivalent).
  • Experience with in Facilities Management, Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Life Sciences or other regulated environments.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, pumps, pipework, pressurised systems, and mechanical building services.
  • Proven experience delivering both planned and reactive maintenance.
  • Excellent fault‑finding and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Strong understanding of health & safety and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, critical environment.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proactive and customer‑focused approach to service delivery.
Desirable
  • Experience working within GMP-controlled environments.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical compliance requirements.
  • Experience using CAFM systems.
  • IOSH or equivalent health & safety qualification.
  • Experience supporting energy efficiency and continuous improvement projects.
  • Experience working on critical infrastructure and business‑critical systems.
