Aboutthe Role
The Operations Director reports to the Vice President UK and is accountable for safe, compliant, efficient and commercially effective delivery of UK operational services. The role focuses on operational leadership, service delivery, resource planning, project execution, performance improvement and client delivery, in collaboration with the Technical Director to embed technical standards, engineering integrity and specialist capability into operational practice.
Key Responsibilities- Operational Leadership & Strategy:
Contribute to the UK business strategy, annual operating plan, budget and growth priorities; translate strategic objectives into operational plans and communicate them to the UK management team and employees. - Process Management:
Create and implement UK operational processes; ensure teams follow approved processes, procedures, competence requirements and safe systems of work. - Performance Management:
Create, promote and report on operational KPIs (general performance, incidents, near misses, non-conformances and improvement actions). - Compliance & Risk:
Ensure operations meet UK legislation, client requirements, project deliverables, budgets, industry standards and internal policies; maintain risk registers and support audits. - Continuous Improvement:
Lead change initiatives, process improvements, systems adoption and integration of global best practice.
- Manage and lead direct reports in the UK, including resource planning and recruitment; ensure performance delivers services profitably.
- Set targets, monitor performance, and communicate through formal and informal channels.
- Promote business improvement, change and strategic projects; coach, mentor and train colleagues.
- Champion a culture of safety, quality, integrity, collaboration, innovation and customer focus.
Skills, Experience and Knowledge
- Significant senior operational leadership experience in technical services, engineering, inspection, asset integrity, energy, infrastructure or related environments.
- Proven track record leading multi-site or field-based operations with responsibility for safety, quality, service delivery and commercial performance.
- Experience managing operational budgets, workforce utilisation, project delivery, productivity and margin improvement.
- Strong understanding of regulated, safety-critical or compliance-led environments; experience working with senior clients and leading operational teams on complex technical services.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change, improve processes and build high-performing teams; customer-focused with strong commercial acumen.
- Excellent planning, prioritisation and decision-making in fast-moving operational contexts; clear communicator who translates strategy into action; collaborative across technical, commercial and corporate functions.
- High standards of integrity, safety leadership and professionalism; IT skills including Microsoft Office and CRM systems (Hubspot or compatible).
