Polytec are seeking an experienced Wiring / Electrical Technician to join our central Cambridge based client. The successful candidate will be responsible for building, assembling, and testing complex cable harnesses and wire assemblies to exacting industry standards. Due to the nature of the work, candidates will be required to gain security clearance.
Responsibilities
Manufacture and install complex cable harnesses, wire assemblies, and connectors in line with engineering drawings, schematics, and detailed work instructions.
Carry out precision tasks including cutting, stripping, crimping, soldering, lacing, and tinning in accordance with industry best practices.
Ensure all assemblies meet IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards for quality and compliance.
Perform continuity and functional testing using Multimeters and other relevant test equipment.
Work closely with production supervisors and engineering teams to resolve build issues and achieve production targets.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 2 years' hands-on experience in cable assembly, electrical wiring or harness manufacturing within a production or maintenance environment
Current and valid IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 certifications
Recognised Level 3 electrical qualification or equivalent apprenticeship-based training
Strong ability to interpret complex wiring diagrams and build documentation, with proven crimping and soldering skills and a solid understanding of ESD-safe working practices
Excellent attention to detail, strong manual dexterity and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Desirable Skills
Knowledge of Risk Assessments and COSHH requirements, particularly relating to the safe use of fluxes, cleaners and adhesives
Experience maintaining a clean and organised workspace using 5S or similar continuous improvement methodologies
A proactive mindset with the ability to identify potential process improvements or safety enhancements
