Machine Shop Engineer – Duxford, UK
Hexcel is the industry leader in the manufacturing of advanced composite materials, including carbon fibre, woven reinforcements, resins, prepregs, honeycombs and additively manufactured parts. We invite you to join our team at the Duxford, UK location.
Responsibilities- Maintain and promote a safe working environment within the various machine shops (M/s).
- Ensure M/s equipment remains serviced, calibrated and fit‑for‑purpose.
- Act as the recognised trainer and key contact for M/s equipment.
- Coordinate the resolution and repair of equipment following breakdowns.
- Arrange the procurement of specialist fixtures, fittings or components for equipment in the M/s.
- Identify and validate new equipment and/or technologies and, when approved, coordinate the preparation of Capex documentation.
- Manage the commissioning of new equipment/plant and drive its implementation.
- Carry out routine and specialist machining of FRP composite materials in compliance with relevant requirements, specifications and standards.
- Provide machining support to other functions as appropriate.
- Assist with ancillary tasks including 5S, LEAN, continuous improvement and other support activities to maintain the day‑to‑day running of the M/s.
- Previous experience machining FRP composite materials is advantageous.
- Ability to use technologies associated with M/s activities and to take a scientific approach / understanding.
- Good technical comprehension to understand written instructions, specifications and the ability to interpret relevant drawings.
- A hands‑on approach to M/s work combined with good attention to detail.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
- Ability to command the personal respect and confidence of colleagues.
- Must be eligible to work in the country where the position is based.
