Principal Heritage Consultant (Cambridge)

Overview

The Cultural Heritage and Archaeology team is one of the largest heritage consultancies in the country, working across the UK and Ireland on high-profile infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and deliver archaeology projects in the South East of the country, principally fieldwork projects.
  • Lead fieldwork projects from planning and consent applications to the delivery of bespoke archaeological strategies and works for developments and infrastructure.
  • Monitor and assure the work of WSP-approved fieldwork subcontractors, both on-site and in the technical review of deliverables, including RAMS.
  • Prepare competitive tenders and design the scope and methodology for archaeological fieldwork in accordance with WSP Health and Safety protocols and requirements.
  • Produce or contribute to archaeological desk-based assessment.
  • Undertake stakeholder, curator and client liaison.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with a range of clients and peers, and identify and pursue business development and marketing opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Experience of archaeological fieldwork project management (project, financial and staff management).
  • Robust knowledge of Irish archaeology and history, as well as full knowledge of the planning process and relevant environmental/heritage legislation and guidance.
  • Experience in heritage and planning, master planning, heritage conservation, heritage led-regeneration, recreation and tourism, heritage sustainability master planning, placemaking, multi‑disciplinary collaboration and business development.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively within a team.
  • Highly motivated, conscientious and efficient approach to work, with demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and budgets in a busy consultancy environment.

Based in either the Cambridge or Bristol offices, the successful candidate will bring a specialism or skill that contributes to the development of the team and the wider business.
