Job Description
Principal Scientist (DMPK)
Permanent
Cambridge
A leading biotech organisation is seeking a Principal Scientist with deep DMPK and quantitative pharmacology expertise to support oncology-focused discovery and early development programmes.
You will define and drive translational DMPK strategies across the pipeline, applying mechanistic modelling and pharmacology insight to guide decision‑making from lead optimisation through to IND. Working cross‑functionally, you will play a key role in shaping programme direction and ensuring high‑quality progression of assets toward the clinic.
Key Responsibilities:- Define and implement translational DMPK strategies across multiple programmes, from lead optimisation to clinical candidate selection.
- Develop and apply PK/PD, PBPK, and other mechanistic models to inform dose, schedule, and exposure‑response relationships.
- Integrate in vitro, in vivo, and in silico data to support decision‑making and improve translational confidence.
- Partner closely with chemistry, biology, toxicology, and clinical teams to guide programme strategy.
- Contribute to human dose prediction and support first‑in‑human study design.
- Provide scientific leadership within project teams and across the wider DMPK function.
- Oversee external collaborations and CRO activities where required.
- Mentor and support development of junior scientists within the team.
- Present data and strategic recommendations clearly to internal stakeholders and external collaborators.
- PhD (or equivalent experience) in a relevant scientific discipline, with significant industry experience in drug discovery and early development.
- Strong expertise in DMPK and quantitative pharmacology, including PK/PD and PBPK modelling.
- Experience applying modelling and simulation to support candidate selection and clinical translation.
- Familiarity with tools such as Phoenix Win Nonlin, NONMEM, MATLAB, or similar.
- Proven ability to work in cross‑functional project teams and influence decision‑making.
- Experience supporting programmes from discovery through to IND/early clinical development.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex data into clear insights.
- Prior leadership or mentoring experience is desirable.
