Retail Assistant

Hambleton Farms, an independent owner‑run retail food business, are looking for a part‑time Retail Assistant to join the team at our newest location at Scots dales Garden Centre in Great Shelford (opened September 2025). Our business has grown significantly over the last 18 years, become a multi‑award‑winning operation, with an enthusiastic and dedicated team of employees, working across 4 retail locations.

We offer a competitive hourly rate in the region of £8.60‑£13.50 per hour. As well as this, you will be part of the staff in‑store discount scheme, company pension scheme and Death in Service insurance scheme. Uniform and full training provided.

Our delis are packed with a large selection of handmade pies, cooked meats, scotch eggs, olives and charcuterie. Our cheese counters are stocked with local, national and internationally sourced cheeses from only the finest producers. Our traditionally trained butchers serve only the finest cuts of beef, lamb, pork, poultry and game. Our customers really are spoilt for choice!

This role will require a mixture of serving customers, assisting with the production of delicious handmade products and back‑filling counters with fresh product.

• Work with the Butchery and Deli teams to set the store up on a daily basis.
• Assist in making our seasonal range of meal solutions.
• Deliver an outstanding experience to all customers.
• Ensure self‑serve displays in chillers are attractive and shoppable.
• Practice necessary due diligence health and safety, food safety, etc.
• Stock control.

• Excellent customer service and sales skills.
• Good communication skills at all levels.
• Honest, reliable and dedicated.
• Previous experience in a Food Retail, Deli, Counter Assistant, Customer Service, Cook or Chef role would be advantageous.

24 hours per week available must be available on Sundays and 2 days in the week. Working hours between 08:30‑17:30, with 30 minutes for lunch – some overtime available at weekends, school holidays, and bank holidays.
