Stores Operative
Location: Longstanton
Hours: 48 hours per week
Department: Direct Labour
Reporting to: Yard Supervisor
Role Overview
We are seeking a reliable and proactive Stores Operative to join our clients team. This role is responsible for the safe receipt, storage, control and dispatch of materials within the yard and warehouse environment.
The successful candidate will help ensure stock accuracy, maintain a tidy and secure yard, and uphold high standards of Health, Safety and Environmental compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Unload deliveries, check materials against documentation and store correctly
- Load outgoing vehicles, ensuring materials match relevant paperwork
- Record all stock movements accurately using stock control systems
- File and maintain materials movement documentation
- Carry out periodic stock checks and assist with inventory control
- Record issue and receipt of plant equipment and liaise with relevant teams
- Monitor and report any unauthorised removal of materials or access to the yard
- Maintain yard security and general organisation
- Dispose of waste in line with company procedures
- Ensure materials are stored safely and in good condition
- Identify and suggest improvements to storage and operational processes
- Maintain awareness of utilities shut-off points and fire prevention systems
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support operational objectives
- Report low or excess stock levels to procurement
Skills & Experience
- Conscientious and able to work with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and process-driven mindset
- Proactive and helpful approach
- Health, Safety and Environmentally aware
- Physically fit and capable of manual handling
- Confident using computers and stock systems
- Experience with fibre optic or telecommunications materials desirable (not essential)

- Willingness to work occasional Saturdays and at alternative stock locations
Qualifications
- Telehandler and forklift licences desirable
- Full UK Category B driving licence required
