With plans to see SP Energy Networks (SPEN), part of the Scottish Power Group, look to invest over £5bn in transmission projects across our transmission network in central and southern Scotland by 2030, the SPT Project Design Services team will play a key role in supporting SPEN to work at pace to deliver the transmission network that is required to support ambitions Scottish and UK Government 2030 targets.

SPEN are currently recruiting a CAD Designer (Civil, Structural and Cables) to join the SP Transmission Project Design Services team to develop and implement high quality engineering drawing solutions for Transmission Network Projects (132kV and above).

The postholder will play an important role in delivering accurate, consistent drawing outputs that meet project, safety, and compliance requirements.

This role requires skills in engineering drawing creation, technical expertise within Electrical Protection & Control, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the discipline.

What you'll be doing
  • Preparation of Models & Drawings:
    Developing both feasibility and detailed design models and drawings for complex transmission / distribution projects.
  • Compliance:
    Supporting adherence to health, safety, quality, and environmental standards within project deliverables.
  • Workload Management:
    Responsible for organising and progressing your allocated workload efficiently.
  • Information Gathering:
    Collecting relevant information to produce accurate models and drawings.
  • Standards Promotion:
    Communicating and encouraging the use of drawing standards and procedures.
  • QA Systems:
    Ensuring your work complies with externally audited QA systems and supporting the discipline in maintaining these standards.
  • Database Maintenance:
    Contribute to the maintenance and upkeep of the drawing office databases.
  • Design Change System:
    Contribute to an auditable design/design change system to facilitate BS EN 9001 accreditation.
  • Drawing Assessment:
    Assessing basic and detailed engineering drawings during approval process.
  • Team Support:
    Providing guidance and support to team members in their areas of expertise.
  • Client Delivery:
    Ensuring timely delivery of high-quality work to clients, achieving high client satisfaction.
  • Documentation Review:
    Preparing and reviewing drawing documentation and processes within the drawing office.
  • Communications:
    Keeping drawing office manager, design lead, project staff and clients updated on work progress and any issues that arise.
What you'll bring

We are looking for an agile and motivated individual who is passionate about enhancing their own, and the team's, knowledge and understanding of innovative engineering solutions and designs.

As a minimum, you will demonstrate:

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in Civil/Structural model and drawing production in all areas:
    General Arrangement Drawings, RC Detailing, 3D Modelling of Civil / Structural Elements, Cable Duct & Trench Layouts / Details, Drainage Layouts & Details, Ground Investigation Layouts, Steelwork Layouts & Details amd Concrete Layouts & Details.
  • HNC in Civil Engineering or proven engineering experience within Transmission Substation Design - Drawing Office.
  • A solid understanding of health and safety requirements, and compliance.
  • Working knowledge of model & drawing standards and procedures.
  • Skilled in using 3D/2D Autodesk products, including Revit, Civil3D, AutoCAD, Vault, ACC, Project Wise, Raster Design 2020, and the MS Office suite.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
