About the role

The Lecturer in Arabic Culture will deliver teaching across the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum. Reporting to the Head of the School, the role holder will work closely with staff on courses such as BA Arabic, BA Languages and Cultures, and MA Middle Eastern Studies. Responsibilities include teaching Arabic literature in translation and as a language, advising students studying Arabic (including those preparing for study abroad), and advising dissertations across Arab and Middle Eastern studies.

Requirements: teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level, assessment experience in essays and alternative forms such as multimedia, and awareness of AI in contemporary higher education. Candidates should be adaptable, proactive, and creative team players capable of supporting students and collaborating with colleagues.

About the department

The School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics houses around 700 students studying a broad range of Asian, African and Middle Eastern languages. The Arabic team includes nearly a dozen teachers covering language acquisition, translation, subtitling, dialectology, literature, film and media. BA Arabic is one of the largest programmes in the UK, with students often taking joint degrees. Postgraduate students pursue an MA with Intensive language.

Students spend significant time abroad and regularly win awards.
