The Senior Staff Accountant serves as a critical bridge between day-to-day accounting operations and higher-level financial reporting and oversight. This position works closely with the Controller and plays a key role in month-end close, account reconciliations, budgeting support, financial reporting, and process improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities General Ledger & Transaction Oversight
  • Supervise and review transaction-level accounting activities, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, Payroll Entries, and General Journal Entries.
  • Serve as the first level of review for accounting staff, ensuring transactions are accurately coded and properly documented.
  • Monitor general ledger activity for unusual transactions, errors, or misclassifications and initiate corrective action as needed.
Month-End Close & Reconciliations
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, including cash, prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, fixed assets, and intercompany accounts.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciliation discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Escalate significant issues to the Controller when appropriate.
  • Maintain the month-end close checklist and ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Prepare month-end financial schedules and variance analyses for management review.
Budgeting & Forecasting Support
  • Assist with the annual budgeting process, including coordinating departmental submissions and consolidating budget information.
  • Perform monthly budget-to-actual variance analyses and identify key drivers impacting financial performance.
  • Maintain budget tracking reports and respond to budget inquiries from department managers.
Financial Reporting & Controller Support
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Support external audits and tax preparation activities by organizing work papers and responding to auditor requests.
  • Manage the company's lease accounting portfolio in accordance with ASC 842, including:
    • Recording right-of-use (ROU) assets and lease liabilities
    • Maintaining monthly amortization schedules
    • Coordinating with operations to identify and classify new or modified lease agreements
  • Participate in accounting system implementations and process improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with regulatory filings, lender reporting, and board-level financial packages as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field with accounting coursework.
  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a corporate or public accounting environment.
  • Previous experience supervising accounting transactions and/or junior accounting staff preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with MAS 90/Sage 100 is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as business needs require.
Work Environment
  • Professional office setting.
