Overview
Rutgers University–Camden’s Student Academic Success department seeks a dynamic Department Administrator reporting to the director of operations for the unit. The Department Administrator will manage administrative support for the Division of Student Academic Success, which includes the Vice Chancellor for Student Academic Success, Office of Retention, Center for Learning and Student Success, Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF), TRIO Student Support Services (SSS), the Career Advancement Center, Office of Scholar Development and Fellowship Advising, and the Student Success Coach Office.
The position also hires, trains, and supervises administrative student employees.
- Calendar management and expense preparation and filing for senior leaders.
- Preparation and dissemination of information, report preparation and analysis, special projects, and general communications.
- Interpret, communicate, and implement Rutgers policies and practices for departmental needs.
- Purchasing, personnel, space, and facilities planning and major event design, promotion, and implementation.
- Budget tracking and support of standard operating and business processes.
- Establish performance standards, conduct evaluations, and have authority to hire and fire student staff.
- Work independently with broadly defined objectives and limited review of overall results.
Education and Experience
Must possess a bachelor’s degree in higher education administration, public administration, management, or related field (or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience). Minimum five years of relevant professional experience in an administrative function.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Comprehensive knowledge of management and administrative principles and practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, customer service, and office administration skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with campus database systems (Navigate, Smartsheet, People Soft, etc.).
• Ability to coordinate multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior administrative support to upper‑level management or executive level in a higher‑education environment.
• Experience in a student service office and working with first‑generation college students or students with disabilities.
• Significant event management, payroll, and budget management experience.

Eligible for a hybrid work arrangement in accordance with Rutgers Policy 60.3.22. The pilot program is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024; arrangements are subject to change and require approval in the Flex Work@RU Application System.
