Base pay range

$15.50/hr - $15.50/hr

Under the supervision of the Family Youth & Development Supervisor, the Youth Development Specialist will create and maintain a safe physical & emotional environment, direct ly supervis e p rogram p articipants during all program hours , and plan & implement our core program areas :
Academic Success, Good Character & Citizenship, Healthy Life Skills , and the Arts.

Responsibilities

The duties listed below are the primary duties of this position but are not all the duties that may be required . The Salvation Army reserves the right to change, reduce or expand the duties of this position at any time. Specifically, The Primary Duties Are

  • Promote a physically and emotionally safe environment for program participants.
  • Provide guidance and positive role modeling to our members .
  • Stimulate members’ interest and positive participation in activities .
  • Provide homework/power hour support .
  • Implement and actively supervise programs, services , and activities for members .
  • Assist with creating and planning programs and activities .
  • Recognize and respond quickly to inappropriate behavior – arguing, fighting , etc. – using positive discipline and other techniques as outlined in training .
  • Complete accident or incident reports when appropriate according to Kroc Center procedures .
  • Assist in the maintenance of the facility, equipment , and supplies . (i.e., ensuring rooms are clean at the end of the day, reporting any maintenance issues, etc.)
  • Be prompt, courteous, and neat during working hours, following uniform guidelines .
  • Maintain an inventory of all program equipment and supplies and relay shortages to the supervisor as needed. Recommend and requisition supplies needed for the assigned area .
  • Complete daily reports on department activities and attendance .
  • Work with staff on special events and facilitate programs in any department when needed .
  • Complete any required or mandated training and/or professional development .
  • Engage parents regarding opportunities and expectations of club members, as well as general club participation .
  • Adhere to all Child Care Licensing requirements and policies/procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and other official documents.
  • Attend full-day field trips and other Family Youth & Development Activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required .
  • Two years of experience working with youth and families in a school/after-school setting required .
  • Attend staff training outside of regular work hours .
  • Must pass a criminal background check & DOJ/FBI fingerprint clearance .
  • Must pass the NJ Child Abuse Record Information (CARI) Check .
  • CPR certification preferred .
  • Strong t utoring background in English, Mathematics , and /or Science preferred.
  • Required Medical Physical Examination with negative TB test .
  • Must understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
