This is a Senior Packaging Engineer Position in the Snacking Packaging Development Team. You will engage with cross‑functional partners, working closely with Operations, Marketing, Supply Chain, Procurement, Quality, and Product Development. You must have strong leadership and project management capabilities to drive Base Packaging Programs, Enablers, and Packaging Innovation. A good understanding of flexible and semi‑rigid materials (flexible films, paperboard, corrugate, and thermoforming) and how they interface with packaging equipment is required.

You will coach and provide direction to Junior Engineers and Packaging Interns.

Responsibilities
  • Execute multiple moderate to high‑risk packaging projects
  • Build relationships with business teams (customers)
  • Identify and execute new packaging format innovations
  • Lead small project teams
  • Identify opportunities to improve material and performance specifications
  • Review quality issues and develop plans to resolve
  • Conduct competitive material evaluations
  • Develop new packaging technologies for existing or new equipment
  • Troubleshoot line‑trial and package‑testing issues with minimal supervision
  • Manage and lead projects to align with key business objectives and meet launch criteria
  • Influence and negotiate cross‑functional team members to implement optimal consumer package solutions
  • Develop strong relationships with vendors to identify improvement opportunities for packaging materials and equipment
  • Implement cost‑saving and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with the Packaging Team and other cross‑functional teams to identify new approaches, processes, and best practices
  • Communicate implications of material changes to manufacturing plants and make recommendations with limited guidance
  • Collaborate with business to drive consumer packaging insights early in development
  • Formulate and execute complex experimental designs
  • Maintain packaging specifications and formula builds
  • Prioritize and track projects to ensure they stay on track, highlight risks, and execute with excellence
  • Understand the relationship between package, product, and process
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a materials‑based program (Packaging preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Packaging R&D or a related field
  • Must be able to travel (anticipated travel 25%–30%)

  • Self‑starter with the ability to drive innovative technical solutions and multitask on key programs
  • Analytical depth and technical expertise in packaging materials, processes, or systems
  • Materials knowledge in flexible films, folding cartons, paper‑related substrates, corrugated, and thermoformed containers
  • Able to develop an implementation plan on low‑moderate risk projects using sound technical methodology
  • Determine the type of testing necessary to simulate distribution environments
  • Ability to synthesize options for management from ambiguous or abstract concepts
  • Proficiency in pallet programs (TOPS or CAPE), specification database management, and MS Office software
